First off i started by creating a rectangle then i went to the twirl tool to add some effects to the rectangle and i use the pucker tool scallop tool and the crystallize tool . after that I made a rectangle for my stem and drag the rectangle under layer 1 . Then i selected the twirl to make the stem twirly. 
You have ended up with some interesting results. Make sure you really annotate everything that you do (e.g. using the gradient tool for the lettering effects etc.) You will need to do that on the actual project work to get top marks. Keep up the good work. Steve
