UNIT 16 

What is a logo?

A Logo is a design symbolising ones Organisation. It is a design that is used by an Organizations for its letterhead, advertising material, and signs as an emblem by which the Organizations can easily be recognised, also called logotype. Logotype is a graphic representation or symbol of a company name, trademark, abbreviation, etc., often uniquely designed for ready recognition.

BRASS has a colour of black with very light blue with shapes such as half a circle , full circle and rectangle . It has a smooth texture and straight lines . The logo above represent a word mark logo. theres space between each letter which means none of the letters are touching each other . The tone of the logo has a bold black colour and and light background to make the logo pop out more or more visible to peoples eyes . The letters  are well balance because nothing is out of shape such as one letter is bigger than one they all the same . The logo has a proportion of shapes such as rectangle piece of a shape and a part of a shape . The logo has been created in illustrator ,  they use rectangle for the background and also they use rectangle for the words and circles to make the words . They use black for the rectangle for the letters and light blue for the background . Also they use the knife tool to cut the circle in half to get a half circle to make up a letter . Word mark, Contrast of colour, shape, size, space, scale creates visual attraction, different shapes can be used to  provide contrast in a composition. Similar shapes may not be as visually appealing. 

NOPICNIC has a bright red with white in the word mark  with a rectangle shape font . It has a smooth texture to its surface . Theres space between each letter and the tone of the logo has white wording and a red background to make the white stands out more .The logo is well balance every letter is the same size . The words is not align , they are not straight . Theirs lines in the logo and have a square box frame . On the sides, out side the inner red theres a light cream frame going around the red square .

The example of the logo above is used for the website called Brody Associates. The logo is very simple and formal. There is a square black background with a white shape of a capital B in the centre . In this example most of the space of the logo is taken up with the white shape against the black . The white area is shaped from the upper-case B for the name Brody . I have found out the graphic designer Neville Brody set up the company and to me the white shape is also a suggestive of the letter N his first initials . This logo has been created in illustrator using a rectangle shape and resizing it to a square . First the got a letter B by using the typing tool , and place the B in the centre of the square . Then they selected everything and went to expand the object . After expanding the object you then go to windows and then click on pathfinder . A tool bar will pop up then select minus and u have the B cut out into the black square .

Run is a simple logo . The logo has a white background with the wordmark run which stands out clear . Run has a unique text which is lines that makes it simple and clear . The R has legs to represent the logo name which is very formal when anyone saw the logo they instantly know the meaning of the logo. Each letter is the same size and has space between each letter . This logo could be made using photoshop or illustrator because its a simple logo anyone can do . Tools they use are selection , rectangle , eraser , expand or pen tool .

 The GreenLabs is a word mark logo and a icon logo . Above the word mark theres a green tree which is a brain  to represent  green environment , a healthy brain, intelligence  and the name of the brand . The font is simple with capital letters and a green font to represent the name of the brand as well . The background is white and the logo stands out .The style of this logo is very modern to the look of it . The logo could have been produce in illustrator and maybe photoshop for some its elements . The texture of the tree is rough because it is representing a brain , or they first draw the logo in a book then scan it on to a mac or a pc and use the pen tool to trace the logo and add features to it like lines to make it look like a brain , fonts and colour .

The look has a unique design which has a black background with white letters to stand out from the black background . The two O are larger from the the rest letters which isn't a balance logo. The big two O represent two eyes looking because of the name of the brand look. The texture of the logo is smooth and also its a word mark logo . The logo could have been made in either illustrator or photoshop . The logo has simple colours black and white and has a modern look . The logo doesn't really have any great features to it , they maybe get ellipse circles and made the strokes lager and have a simple great logo .

 Jurassic Park logo is a combination logo . The logo represent the theme of the movie which is dinosaurs. The background is flat black square with a circle and a rectangle join together to make one shape . The word mark has drawn lines in the middle of the white outer layer . The icon is a dinosaur which is black and to make it appear they use a red background inside the circle to make it stands out.The text is aligned straight across with a simple font and has negative space . The style of the font is more retro or urban .   The outer of the logo has a yellow frame that goes right around the logo its self. This logo could be done in illustrator with all the features it has in such as the trex in the background that could be drawn on a piece of paper then scan and put on to illustrator and then use the pen tool to trace the drawing out . They could have use the ellipse and rectangle tool to make the frame or shapes of the logo and connect them to make one . Colours from the colour tab or brush , fonts for the word mark.

Ghostbusters is represented by a icon . The logo has a black background and the logo in the centre . The logo has a circle with a stroke but no fill and the ghost in the middle . Theres a rectangle line going slanted across the ghost . The shapes are red and the ghost is white to make it stands out from the black background . The style of the logo  modern or could be retro as well  . This logo is different from  the others . This logo could be made using illustrator , using tools like ellipse to get a rounded circle shape , pen tool to trace over the scan image from your drawing of the ghost character , the colour tool or paint brush to add in colour , eraser tool , or the selection tool .
